Myles Lewis

A long time fitness enthusiast, Myles has been working out since he was 16. Since beginning his personal training career in 2006, he has constantly been in search of exercise techniques that inspire and motivate his clients. Myles discovered CrossFit in 2008, became a certified CrossFit coach, and has been addicted ever since.

Myles participated as an individual at the NorCal CrossFit Games Regional Qualifier in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, and served as a commentator at the CrossFit Games in both 2012 and 2013. He has also had three consecutive first-place finishes at the annual Fittest of the Sierras contest in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He believes CrossFit is the most effective method to improve and maintain fitness, and uses it himself to prepare for the physical demands of snowboarding. Because he spends most of the winter in the backcountry or the park, he knows how hard the sport can be on the body and wants to be able to charge through any type of snow conditions.

Myles has starred in three major snowboard films, “The Emergence,” “Finding Time,” and “Lake Effect.” During his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, friends and his wife. When he’s not snowboarding (or waiting to go snowboarding!), you can find him at the gym, skateboarding, mountain biking, surfing, and wrestling bears, yetis or mountain lions. Now quit reading about Myles and get to the gym for the “WOD!”

Jason Berger

Jason grew up about a mile from Crossfit Avalanche’s location in Tahoe Vista. He loves any type of recreation that allows him to enjoy the outdoors, however, as Jason got into his 30’s, his body wasn’t exactly looking like he ever ventured off of the couch.

Deciding to become a little more proactive with his weight issue, he bought an elliptical and started to diet. Although very effective, going from 270 lbs. to 230 lbs., Jason was bored during every workout and knew it wasn’t going to last. He had tried the typical “globo” gym and, although he got stronger, he still wasn’t fit. His wife, Andrea, had mentioned that a new CrossFit gym had opened in Truckee and she thought they should give it a shot. After a short six months, Jason started to see dramatic change in his body composition, including definition he never thought possible at 40 years old. He started the Paleo

diet after about nine months of CrossFit, was in the best shape he has ever been in his life…even while playing collegiate sports.

Two years later, completely addicted to CrossFit, competing in regional competitions and holding a Level 1 certificate, Jason is excited to share his passion for the sport of CrossFit with clients. Jason enjoys making all of his classes fun and motivating clients to “get uncomfortable and leave it all at the gym.”

Jason holds the following certifications:

  • Level 1 CrossFit Trainer

  • CrossFit Kids Certification

Growing up in Tahoe makes Angel a true “local." Throughout his younger years, Angel was an avid runner, participating in both cross-country running and track. When he started CrossFit in 2010, he quickly learned that success in the sport of fitness doesn’t come easy. It takes commitment, patience and continuous hard work - both physically and mentally - to achieve your goals.

CrossFit has given Angel the opportunity to combine two things he is passionate about - fitness and helping people. He earned his CrossFit Level 1 certification in 2014 and is now hard at work helping people achieve their fitness goals by teaching and encouraging them, and promoting use of proper form and technique. When he’s not in the gym coaching others or working out, you’ll find Angel hiking, paddling, skiing, camping, or simply enjoying the outdoors and what Lake Tahoe has to offer.

Angel holds the following certifications:

  • Level 1 CrossFit Trainer

Matt Smith

With a long history of participation in organized team sports, and as a result of being the son of an athletic coach, Matt’s fitness interests developed at a young age. Growing up in Vermont, Matt spent countless weekends and holidays on the road playing football and baseball, ski racing and snowboarding, and went on to play Division III college baseball and football for Colby College in Waterville, ME.

When he was introduced to CrossFit in 2012, Matt quickly recognized the incredible challenge offered by the workouts, as well as the rapid progression of his own athletic performance. His personal success fueled his desire to help other athletes reach their full potential, and led him to earn his Level 1, 2 and Olympic Lifting Certificates in order to begin coaching.

In 2014, after working in financial services in New York and San Francisco for over 14 years, Matt and his wife Amy moved to the mountains to realize their dream of living at Lake Tahoe where they could enjoy the mountain lifestyle.

Matt views CrossFit as the best way to be prepared for the activities that take him on outdoor adventures. Dani has always been an active person. Growing up at Lake Tahoe, snowboarding, wakeboarding, hiking and biking were some of her favorite activities. As a young adult, Dani discovered the gym, the fitness lifestyle, and in 2009, was in the best shape of her life. After a few years of long hours at a desk job, she gained weight, became out of shape, bored with the "gym routine" and wanted something more. CrossFit helped Dani gain confidence she didn't have before, changed her body composition, and improved her athletic performance. She also credits CrossFit with having introduced her to an amazing community of people who didn’t just become gym buddies, but friends and mentors.

The passion she found in the gym inspired her to become a trainer. In 2014, Dani completed her CrossFit Level 1 certification. She has devoted her career to the health and fitness industry, and to inspiring others to find out what they are capable of – both in and out of the gym.

Dani holds the following certifications:
